Taking our Own Advice

As a web design studio, obviously we here at Clockpunk Studios care deeply about cultivating a robust and meaningful web presence not just for our clients, but for ourselves. That’s why we recently redesigned and relaunched our studio site, in order to showcase our favorite elegant, clean aesthetics, as well as highlight our wide range of design skills and tools and ability to present information in an easy-to-navigate way.

But appearance and presentation isn’t everything when it comes to a quality website. The fact of the matter is, this (we think) lovely page you see on your screen right now is just window dressing. It’s the way you and others interact with the complex and (we think) fascinating coding that not only links a website to the Internet as a whole, but links it in such a way that will get the greatest number of people to see it. A buried webpage that takes a complex string of keyword searches on Google just for people to find it isn’t going to do your business any good, after all.

That’s why when we redesigned our studio site we knew we wanted to implement and showcase the kind of SEO software we incorporate into our clients’ sites. If our company site is easy to find, after all, it speaks well for our ability to push your site into the sights of whoever is out there, looking for you…

We knew SEO wasn’t the only tool we could utilize to get our website more traffic, however. We knew that one of the easiest ways to attract the attention of SEO spiders (the algorithms used by search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo) is to frequently update our site.

You may or may not know this, but websites that are always posting new, meaty, original content tend to attract more attention in the search engine rankings. A blog (just like the one you’re reading now) is one of the quickest and easiest ways for a writer or small business owner to regularly update his or her website. Not only is the software easy to work with, but it also gives you a platform to get your thoughts and ideas out there. You can engage your readership with a photo essay on your recent hiking trip or book tour—showcase an individual product or sale item to your clients—establish yourself as an authority in your field. These tangible and intangible benefits of a blog make it an absolutely essential part of any modern website.

We made a pledge to ourselves to blog more regularly after the relaunch. This, for us, was more than just practicing what we preach—it was a bit of an experiment. Would we see an increase in meaningful web-traffic if we used all the latest SEO software, and followed our own advice when it came to updating our site?

The answer… was yes!

Blogging is good for business—your business, our business, everyone’s business. We’re excited to report that our leads have tripled since we began regularly blogging on our company site. As a small business ourselves, we think this is pretty darn thrilling. After all, we designed our own site… and we write our own blogs, too.
