Web Design and Consulting (with a little attitude)

Hello there. We’re Clockpunk Studios. We design kickass online strategies for authors, publishers, and other budget-concious folks who aren’t afraid to dream BIG. A website alone doesn’t cut it anymore. We grow audiences by developing social media and content strategies.  See what we can do:

Who We Are

We are a team of designers, writers, and photographers with a passion for developing effective and exciting web strategies.

Whether you’re an established publisher, a small business owner, or an author with a new book coming out soon, we can help.

Project Details

Comedian Brian Malow

Client: Comedian Brian Malow

URL: http://www.sciencecomedian.com/

Science Comedian Brian Malow’s career has taken some great turns as of late, and he required a website that fully reflects the scope of his activities, which range from live gigs to videos for Time.com, and he had a comedy CD he wanted more people to get their hands on.   Brian also wanted a [...]

Author Sam Sykes

Client: Author Sam Sykes

URL: http://www.samsykes.com/

Soon-to-debut fantasy author Sam Sykes needed a web presence before his book launch, which was rapidly approaching when he contacted Clockpunk Studios.  Clockpunk Studios had his book-themed author website up and running in a matter of weeks, not months, and another satisfied customer was born.

Author Blake Charlton

Client: Author Blake Charlton

URL: http://www.blakecharlton.com/

Blake Charlton is a med student and a novelist.   Tor will release Spellwright, his first novel,  in 2010.   Blake required a site which could put both areas of his work forward and represent the dichotomy of his interests.  He also required the novel to be front-and-center in the design.
Like many of our projects, Blake’s [...]

Elephant And Macaw

Client: Elephant And Macaw

URL: http://www.eamb.org/

It’s not every day that you get to build a website to help outline an entire fictional world, but that’s exactly what Clockpunk Studios did for client Christopher Kastensmidt.

John Joseph Adams, Editor

Client: John Joseph Adams, Editor

URL: http://www.johnjosephadams.com/

In the field of speculative fiction, John Joseph Adams has quickly risen to the top of his profession as an editor and anthologist. His anthologies such as Wastelands and The Living Dead have sold extremely well, and he continues to put out new anthologies at an astonishing rate.

Author J.A. Pitts

Client: Author J.A. Pitts

URL: http://www.japitts.net/

J.A. Pitts is the author of Black Blade Blues (April 2010, Tor Books). This site’s design was heavily inspired by the text of the novel, a modern fantasy epic featuring a very important sword with a missing rune.

Dr. Julius T. Roundbottom

Client: Dr. Julius T. Roundbottom

URL: http://www.clockpunk.com/

A personal project intended to show off Jeremiah Tolbert’s wide range of skills, Clockpunk.com is a fiction, photography, and podcast site telling the story of a steampunk naturalist named Dr. Roundbottom. Dr. Roundbottom is a man of science! This project is where Clockpunk Studios has inherited its name.

Author Mike Brotherton

Client: Author Mike Brotherton

URL: http://www.mikebrotherton.com/

Mike Brotherton is a science fiction novelist and professional astronomer with two books out via Tor. Mike’s site has undergone a new design with each of his two book releases. Clockpunk Studios assisted in developing a content strategy to more than double his blog readership.

After the End of the World…

Title: After the End of the World…

Client: John Joseph Adams, Tor.com

A post-apocalyptic image created for a Tor.com caption contest, as a promotion for the Wastelands anthology. The model is Mo Cromer. The shoot was held in the hills outside of Fort Collins, Colorado. The city skyline and broken moon were added via Photoshop in post.

Lower Antelope Canyon

Title: Lower Antelope Canyon

Client: portfolio piece

Shots from a recent photo expedition through the American Southwest, of the famous slot canyon near Page, Arizona.

Nature Photography

Title: Nature Photography

Client: portfolio work

A selection of the best nature photography we’ve taken, including all kinds of critters and landscapes.

On the Run

Title: On the Run

Client: Travis of Shear Terror/portfolio piece

This shoot was done for Travis and Ames. Travis is the man behind Shear Terror, a hair styling business. For this shoot, they requested a theme that would show both the good and antagonistic sides of love. We used bad 80s movies as a template, with a mismatched pair handcuffed together and on the run.

Testimonials

I’ve worked with Clockpunk Studios on two different web projects, and my sense is that one of his greatest strengths is the ability to align his own creativity with the project at hand. From the first drafts of the header art for my personal site, Clockpunk Studios captured exactly the mood and personality I wanted the site to convey.
